Combinations and evaluation
Artists & Evaluation
For this Blog entry I will be talking about the artists I have researched and studied I have basically looked back at each artist I have researched and created a table based on the artists I've looked at, saying what imagery I will be creating, what audio I will use and make and the characters as well as that I also recall that the brief says to use 3 artists and you can't disobey the brief! So I did a column on my table for what other artists I have researched would work best with each of the 9 artists I have studied.
Here is a table Below.

- Roy Lichtenstein
- Stan Lee
- Saul Bass
- Morag Myscough

Evaluation
This evaluation will be fairly brief as I am basically going to speak about which artists I have chosen to focus on for making a 30 second animation Ident, to give blurt an identification.
To kickstart this evaluation off with a bang, the things I have considered when making my choices are:
- Which artists will work best together and why?
- What audio I would use for each artist
- Why I have picked these artist?
- Why didn't I choose other artist combinations?
- How can I make the animation my own?
Deciding out of these artists was quite tricky as some of these artists work well and could feature in a 30 second animation- without question but creating these tables above about the combinations have helped me come u with a strategic decision regarding which artist I chose to feature in my 30 second animation with reason. Having said that there was a couple combinations that had strikes me which was
- Roger Hargreaves, Stan Lee and Roy Lichtenstein
- Michael Gondry, Stephan Speilburg and Stan Lee
- Franz Ferdinand, David Redon and Roy Lichtenstein
- Saul Bass, Roy Lichtenstein, Roger Hargreaves
After delegating this with Paul and rationing my choices down Via Zoom we looked back at the animations I created and we said combinations 1 and 2 would work best also combination 4 I only just thought of! So we then put it down to two choices between
- Roger Hargreaves, Stan Lee and Roy Lichtenstein
- Michael Gondry, Stephan Speilburg and Stan Lee
Reason why I didn't pick number 3 is because I would have to completely start again with creating footage and not only does this take too long but I haven't created any 10 second bumpers based of Redon and Ferdinand and these artists I used more as a backup reference on a blog entry though it would of been quite good to create an animation with this combination to each that blurt is an art programme that can be educational going along with history and contemporary art- I quite liked the idea of turning that into an animation but to save time I wanted to use footage I had already pre filmed or already drew the characters and I didn't think it was the best way of giving Blurt an identity. and I didn't pick option four as I say before I hadn't long ago come up with this combination idea and was thought of way after making my final decision.
The tricky decision then was to decide out of which combination 2 was the original go for choice because I liked the 10 second bumpers for these artists and thought I could combine all three to create a 30 second ident which I thought yes okay this could work if I was to work last minute and had nothing left to lose... but I decided on Roger Hargreaves because I designed my own Mr Men which had complete originality to my imagery and designed more Mr Men, Stan Lee because I love his marvel movies and after watching the majority of his movies I figured it make sense I pick him and I love the superhero's character design but I would stick to the same characters I used in my 10 second bumper for the sake of time saving and finally I picked Roy Lichtenstein because the way I drew my illustrations is very retro and very 1970-80's Popart which reminded me and Paul of Roy Lichtenstein's work as well as the fact I like this artist and used him as a reference in artwork I did a few years back when I was doing GCSE's so I knew about him anyway and wanted to study him further in this project and what better way to do that than to draw imagery in the style of Lichtenstein.
I will make this animation my own by coming up with parody takes on songs to give blurt it's identity and by drawing the characters using illustrator in my own way and designing my own mr men is another way to make this animation my own, which I have already done for my 10 second animation and I have created some perfectly good illustrations I would like to feature in this animation.
I didn't pick the combination I was originally going for because despite this combination could work just as well I hadn't watched half of the movies directed by Speilburg so that put me off with picking him but not only that but there was no way I was able to add some complete original work inspired by these artists, because to know it's Speilburg I would have to create the characters, Michael Gondry I would be using his footage most likely from his imagery and finally Stan Lee which I have picked anyway, but he is a better choice than Speilburg because in my 10 second bumper I was able to create some kind of story sequence that in some degree sums up the movies made by this genius but I was going to pick this sequence and have Stan Lee verses Speilbyrh as a battle of the movies kind of thing, but I thought this would be too complex and wildly confusing and would be harder to give Blurt an identity I think.
