Artist 3- Roger Hargreaves

Roger Hargreaves

Imagery and footage

Again this project has really enabled me to discover and experiment using the Adobe suite in various different ways and reasons, creating the imagery, putting audio together, editing video footage, creating photographic effects and patterns and finally establishing Key-framing. Not only have I been using the adobe suite- in this case I have also used and drawn  illustration. The thing I was looking for with this footage was to make and create characters into Mr men by following the same aesthetic as the actual existing Mr men- you can’t beat the classics!! So I wanted to draw them on illustrator as if they were a exhausting Mr men but of course were my own characters based on ideas from my brainstorm. I have also drawn imagery because Roger Hargreaves was an illustrator for children’s books so I wanted to add some hand drawn illustration to my animation as experimentation originally is saw that as a test of patience, skill and originality. Alongside this exciting groundbreaking stuff, I have also managed to film some of my footage with photoshop by recycling some of my Mr Blurt footage from my 10 second bumper as well as using it as new footage I have created using after effects which was a challenge to create, and again really getting to know and grasp the basics with Some of the Adobe suite and combine them together to make some exciting footage.  All will become clear in a matter of  time! As I’ll enlighten you To Mr Blurt and friends as to say my footage below— So grab your popcorn, put your feet up  and Enjoy!

These animations I have created on After Effects this leads videos are actually part of one animation but there were sections I liked and I wanted to show the sections and say why I liked him and stuff but the these videos below was in fact one15 second long video and it's basically how I learnt the basics behind using after affects he's in this video as well as the Marvel one on the previous entry with the basketball they were the one that told me to crack the coconut for after affects.

Anyway here are my videos of Mr Blurt, based on my new footage below.

For this animation I found this to be one of the favourite parts as well I quite liked about it was after he does his walk I had Roger Hargreaves name come out of the microphone as this tablets blurting it out with the word blurt flying out of the megaphone as well and then it goes round in circles and whatever it does I likeFor this animation I found this to be one of the favourite parts as well.
I quite liked about it was after mr Blurt does his walk, I had Roger Hargreaves name come out of the microphone as this character is blurting it out with the word blurt flying out of the megaphone as well and then it goes round in circles and whatever it does I like I like the fact that the word blurt is blasting out so much that is bigger than the actual Mike megaphone itself and then Roger Hargreaves it's nice to just have in the animation with his signature there I think it works well and shows just a bit of a contribution really or tribute and yeah that's basically what I liked about this section.

My Blurt on the Move

With this piece of footage I had to pick out this section because this was a section I found the hardest and I think works really well after spending a couple hours trying to establish how I managed to make this tablet book because I did this by drawing Mr blood but during his part separately each segment of Mr Blair was drawn separately and saved as I think as a PDWith this piece of footage I had to pick out this section because this was a section I found the hardest and I think works really well after spending a couple hours trying to establish how I managed to make this tablet book because I did this by drawing Mr blood but during his part separately each segment of Mr Blair was drawn separately and saved as I think as a PDF file and then I imported the file onto after-effects and I started to fiddle around with his body parts that were left loose and Christ knows how but I managed to make Mr Black walk after taking so long because I was parked where it looked like he was jumping and the legs are going up in the air and it was just not right so had to go back to the drawing board and I basically found a way to do it because what I did was I got his stomach and like his ad on the main body parts of it and then I just got his legs are six separate layers and using the key framing method that I was shown the other week by Jordan I basically did that but moving separate body parts so like his legs were very hard to move that was because when I was moving his legs like I say sometimes it looks like his exclamation at the wrong positions on that but I also had to move the body as well so as he is walking the bodies going with it because of course that's how you would walk and I managed to make him walk to steps and that took me at least 3 to 4 hours so after doing that I feel for these animators and whenever I watch an animated movie I now stand up and give them a round of applause and  and give give them standing ovation because I know the feeling I understand what they go through it's amazing what they do but like taking me 3 to 4 hours to get him to walk that's like what two seconds three seconds of it at footage it's crazy to think that's what you can do in a day where it sounds like it's nothing but it's actually a hell of a lot. Difficult and challenging as this was I thought this was an interesting challenge I really enjoyed trying to figure out how to master making a character walk using after affects it's taught me a lot and I haven't realised but you'll also see that there is a part where Mr bullet smiling and his hands are covering his face it's like he said something that is blurry he said something bad or whatever and I had that in just as a bit of trial and error and basically just out of experimentation Difficult and challenging as this was I thought this was an interesting challenge I really enjoyed trying to figure out how to master making a character walk using after affects it's taught me a lot and I haven't realised but you'll also see that there is a part where Mr Blurt,  smiling and his hands are covering his face in guilt, it's like he said something that is offensive... and said something bad or whatever and I had that in just as a bit of trial and error and basically just out of experimentation. I wanted Mr Blurt to have a smiling face because it made me happy that I made the character walk so for a split second he had the smile of the Cheshire Cat and because thats how I felt when I made this character walk and because I wanted to give Mr Blurt personality suggesting that he's actually quite a cheeky character.

15 Second Bumper

Only with this animation this is the full 15 second animation I put together on for after affects and I can't lie this work has helped me achieve quite a bit and has enabled me to learn the basics behind after-effects I now know how to use keyframes I now know how to use the puppet hall and slowly getting to grips with the script tool and it's enabled me to make a carrot to do something so like in this case we have Mr Burt walking and blurting his blurts out to everyone you know he's actually doing something and I like it because this is just a still image that I've put together and managed to turn it into motion graphics which I think is an achievable learning curve so I can't really knock this space seeing as it's helped me discover and develop. And of course I will be using segments of this animation into my 30 second ident... all will become clear!

Roger Hargreaves Typography

So for the signature of this entry I'll be showing you my development as this situation I come up with the idea of writing the artist name Roger Hargreaves in bubble writing so I can illustrate his Mr man in his name because he's the one who made the Mr men so I wanted to draw his characters in his typography and I wanted to draw it and Joan and I wanted to hand draw it because Roger Hargreaves was an children's  illustrator as and created children's books, classically known for the Mr Men, so I wanted to create typography and write his name with his characters for that reason and to share a bit of a tribute to the guy as well. So I figured my reasons made sense.

Stage 1, the sketch and drawing

For this part of creating the typography I had to be the complete an otter perfectionist as I as you can see I do you lines from the top and the bottom of the lettering so I was capturing the axes I want to say of like you know the baseline and the top line sort of thing and I will need to be put as precise as physically possible as I will need to try and make sure every letter of Roger Hargreaves name managed to fit within the lines I drew the road a bit fine that was okay but he is also my God how many letters does he have seriously his name so long like I had to try making the lettering shorter and as you can see they're pretty much just about squeeze it all in because of it being so long. But I wanted to make sure that despite it all being squeezed in that it was still legible and that I can still fit my characters into the type who is that really what is the purpose of this type I'll Griffey like I will need to try and draw his Mr men in his name so like on the Roger for example we've got Little Miss Sunshine and see our Mr Bump a G was Mr lazy as a E was Mr Happy and R was Mr Perfect.
I wanted to make sure that despite it all being squeezed in that it was still legible and that I can still fit my characters into the type who is that really what is the  they're basically the Mr Men but  yeah they're basically the Mr men I've used to create Roger Hargreaves seeing as though his instrument created.

Typography Developed and coloured in

When I coloured in the typography of the Mr Men, I use water colour to paint each character in the ascending colours as I wanted it to be an accurate representation of that Roger Hargreaves, I would be lying if I said I hadn't searched the actual Mr Men to capture their colour and how to draw them. I wanted them to look as precise as I could get them, seeing as it was a bit of a tribute sort of thing to the guy I wanted each character to have the correct colour and I wanted to experiment and use watercolour colours are you used to use watercolour a lot for like painting and stuff call Griffey I use water colour to paint each character in the ascending colours as I wanted it to be an accurate representation of that Roger Hargreaves saying as it was a bit of a tribute sort of thing to the guy I wanted each character to have the correct colour and I wanted to experiment and use watercolour colours are you used to use watercolour a lot for like painting and stuff like when I definer and stuff watercolour was a friend of mine but I haven't used it in so long and I thought I'd enjoyed that so yeah that's basically the story behind the way I've coloured it is in.

Fine Lined & Complete!

The final cut! This is the finished piece of typographic art I have. created inspired by Roger Hargreave's Mr Men as a tribute o the classic man and to these classic characters, I feel so old drawing these but I was fun, it bought me nostalgia and made me feel like a kid again.  I like the fact that I have coloured each Mr Man character as accurately as I was able to basically. to then fit accordingly into each letter of Roger Hargreaves's name, still on the bright side... it did teach me hoe to spell his name because you hear the silent I in his name, it tricked me... but still I learnt to spell... so I guess that's something. They do say you learn something every day no matter how big or small. so there you go!
Portrait Orientation

Trial and error with taking the photograph the quality of the image is good but I prefer the image above because it perfectly captures each and every letter of his name in a nice and fluent way, which I hope to use the other photograph of the finished product, above this photograph  in my 30 second ident. trailer for Blurt.

Roger Hargreaves Typography

Yeah it's basically a animated recording of me going across my typography and created of Roger Hargreaves of getting each and every single letter as like a test animation that I wanted to feature in my 32nd animation to give tribute to Roger Hargreaves know yet that was the story behind that the thing what really annoys me with the animation is cause it was I don't know late early in the morning and then it's early hours your brain don't work thing is my footage isn't filmed at 16 tonight which now that I've learnt what is 16:9 years it annoys me because you can see the inaccuracies there and it just ruins the dynamic of the video but there is a fortunate side that I can rectify this video and I'm actually able to turn it into a 16:9 video by editing this video on premiere pro so not all hope is lost, so it isn't all bad.

My Character Designs

You have already come across these illustrations so I won't go on about the too much.

My Mr Men

You will of come across these characters before... there id no difference with them but they will be featuring in my 30 second animation.
