30 SECOND ANIMATION & EVALUATION

Final Ident & Evaluation

With this blog entry you'll be as pleased to know as I am that this
IT'S THE FINAL COUNTDOWN!

This is the final Blog entry for my project work. Besides evaluation for the whole project, to come.
Having said that, I can safely say I have loved and enjoyed every single moment of this project, despite having to be a home for the majority of this project, never the less I have still enjoyed it- I have enjoyed the challenge that comes with it and I have really gotten hooked into it and have really loved it.  Anyway... getting to the point now,  with this blog entry I have decided on my final Ident for Blurt You may have already seen the final piece on the previous entry... so here goes nothing! Here is my final animation.

Deciding on my final piece I felt was a fairly tough decision because. had a top 3 so it was tough to decide on which one I was to go for as there was two, they look very similar and looks like there is no difference between them, but there is a slight difference! If you find it... let me know! I liked them both for different reasons but I think I have now made my choice!

Here were my animations to choose from below:

Number 1

Number 2

Number 3

I chose for clip number 2 to be my final 30 second ident for Blurt.

The Ident

I chose this to be my final animation because I felt like the first one but but it was a bit me and almost kind of something missing Sophie sort of thing and I don't know just something wasn't there and option number three I basically chose to because number three does sound is very all over the place which to be fair plus it's basically all over the place but I think it means some of the sound is lost and you can't hear some of it properly in the Sun it's very jagged where is number two works better I think so yeah that was my choice for the 30 second animation. That's basically why I chose this animation but not only for that but also because I'm responding and listening to feedback and they agree with me by saying clip number two is better so I'm gonna go along with that and listen to my feedback.

An Illustrative Caption for 30 second animation

I created this image as a quick sketch doodle for a bit of fun really and to make this entry a little more exciting!

Evaluation of my 30 Second Animation

Questions I've asked myself are:

Whether or not I have for filled the brief.
What Went Well
Improvements
Tutor & Peer feedback
would I do this again
would I pick same artists and develop or choose different artists?
Improvements for the future

The Evaluation

For this animation I think follows the brief successfully because I've managed to pick three artists and designers that have influenced my imagery and have inspired me for creating my 30 second guidance which you can see above. For the makings of this animation I would've already mentioned above but basically this animation address is my three artists by creating recreating their work in my way my interpretation and in some cases come creating were completely of my own inspired by the three artists and the thing I find ironic and I've pretty much just realised all three of my artists have passed away so I feel like the idea for this animation is to make Blurt in this case and episode to evolve around history. So I've incorporated these three artists on as like a pilot episode I wanted to base it on history because each artist I've mentioned has passed away and they'll have history like Roy Lichtenstein has a history of making nineteen sixties to 1980s pop-up art a interesting society in America and it became really popular as his art was about the latest trends comic books and the way he done them is he has a printing technique almost and his work looks very digital but also very comic book retro kind of aesthetic.

Then for Stanley as we know he has quite a vast range of history from making and producing the stories of the Marvel comic books to then developing the Marvel book comics into movies of course starting with ironman back in 2008 and are you passed away back in 2018 so for about 12 years his movies and he has quite a bit of history about his movies also and there are many people who have come together to compose these movies and edit them, design them and still creating them today.  They're the icing on the cake. Therefore like it could even be interviewing various members of the team of producing the movie so like maybe the graphic designers the animators the Fx people the actors the staging the costume designer make up crew into movies and he has quite a bit of history about his movies so like it could even be interviewing various members of the team of producing the movie so like maybe the graphic designers the animators the Fx people the actors the staging the costume designer make up crew etc. Finally with Roger Hargreaves he's passed away as well and his history and as we all know him from making the Mr men books which are aimed for children, but seeing as Channel 4 is best suited to 16 to 34-year-olds but I would say it's for anyone, despite mr men being for children. This is because it's about the history of those artists in this case. Maybe interview his son.

This programme will brings back memories and the nostalgia that grew with these artists and designers, brings back memories and maybe even for those who grew up knowing them really, so this could be suited for an older audience too. Like with Liechtenstein it might even bring back memories about pop art Stan Lee and his Marvel movies and Hargreaves with his books. I therefore wanted to try and keep my audience fairly open because although I want it to be exciting and interesting, but it is also educational. It would benefit next generation students like me, it would benefit teachers and lecturers and anyone who wants to learn something new. Also for the likes of teens and even children because The Marvel movies are a global sensation, so it could influence and interest those in alternative counties in the world two- it could be a multi cultural programme- Lichtenstein's work is American and may influence the American popularity. Besides the Mr men maybe mainly aimed for children which blurt could appeal to children also, by making a section showing past clips of the Mr Men series or it could be maybe Adam Hargreaves reading them one of the books.  Also I feel that if this episode of Blurt, was a pilot episode could be tributes towards the three artists seeing as they are dead like me animation could almost get away with being a tribute to Stanley to Roy Lichtenstein and to Roger Hargreaves.

Though, having said that- for me I find target Audience Is a very controversial matter because it could basically be open because it depends on peoples needs interest values what their job purposes what they're doing whether the night work or during the day work it depends on anything like that really it could be based on anyone that could be open to anyone people can learn from it everyone learn something every day so really it can be open toIs a very controversial matter because it could basically be open because it depends on peoples needs interests, values, what their job purposes what they're doing whether they're night workers or during the day workers it depends on anything like that really it could be based on anyone that could be open to anyone people can learn from it everyone learn something every day so really it can be open to anyone the only people who may not like the sound of that other auntie education and I'm too cool for school and really I think even so it could be quite open because he could get like I dunno maybe some of the artist I looked at later on like Michael Gondry we can maybe he see his visual effects he still alive as it depends on the episode really, it's something to think about more if Blurt was a real thing, that's almost have a look at it because it be aimed for senior people who have been brought up longer than us because they would've remembered each and every moment they would've remembered Roy Lichtenstein they would've remembered the Hargreaves books I would've remembered Stanleys movies if they're watching them and well I can just see in blurt me in an open TV show for anyone least to be Roger Hargreaves and that's almost have a look at it because it be aimed for senior people who have been brought up longer than us because they would've remembered each and every moment they would've remembered Roy Lichtenstein they would've remembered the Hargreaves books I would've remembered Stan Lee movies if they're watching them and well I can Blurt being a TV show open to anyone to be fair.

Call me a geek or a sad sack, whatever you wish, but this programme has really got me thinking what that could actually be all about- it's making me question the programme, as in could it be about history of artists interviews as I have mentioned? Or could it be a program where we have contestants trying to be the next Stan Lee, trying to be the next Roger Hargreaves and Lichtenstein, I have even thought about the presenters of Blurt, I have gone for the route to my animation and visuals. Considering the fact that I featured Paul and Keith in this elevation maybe they could be the presenters of blurts because they're a dynamic duo as we like to know them as carpool and yeah I don't see why the group sent it considering the fact that I featured Paul and Keith in this animation maybe they could be the presenters of blurts because they're a dynamic duo as we like to know them as Kapaul. yeah I don't see why they couldn't present it!

What went well I think the design of my imagery went well I think it's very simplistic but effective it it's got a aesthetic similar to Roy Lichtenstein is in the sense that it's almost like a 1980s 60s retro retro kind of comic book design which does work considering the fact that Stan Lee work with the Marvel movies began with comic books so I figured it would work if my characters were cartoon based on comic base and not only that but even the Mr men I cartoon characters so I don't think it would've worked if I done a lot of my footage it is real life footage. I think the way I've edited the video and put it together went well I think the visuals is very fluent and it flows well I really like the part in there at the beginning that's probably my favourite part where it's got a Saul Bass kind of effect where it starts off from a blank black screen and all the sudden light comes along through the picture and we have the word Stan Lee which is all in black-and-white and then turns into colour which I think that is probably one of the most iconic affects in this animation and I just love that effect. This idea was inspired by Saul Bass's work with Psycho and Anatomy of a Murder back in the 1950's/60's and Something in the end of this clip below Saul Bass says "I want to turn the ordinary into the extraordinary" - Saul Bass which is basically what I wanted to do with the opening of my animation, I wanted to to turn ordinary to extraordinary, inspired by Saul Bass- I found this quote in this clip below, you will of come across this clip in a previous entry but I found it interesting so I am mentioning it again.
I also liked the section where I got Ironman and the Incredible Hulk to play basketball I am in for bounces the basketball hit Hulk in the face and then goes back into the hands, of Paul's
I like that effect because it's like ironman has passed the ball to Paul. The thing I like even more about that is the fact that having the peace flowing from the basketball being in a man's hands to Paul's I like the fact that the movement is fluent and it's flowing and it's the same objects of moving so it's like you're throwing a paper aeroplane to someone else you know it's sort of like that I like the fluidity of the basketball because it closes one door opens another kind of thing. I like the visuals on the centimetres in the making I feel like they make a good tribute to Stan lee, Roy Lichtenstein and Roger Hargreaves.

So that's what I thought went well anyway.  I think the way I could improve the animation could be maybe I could have experimented further with the sound and maybe made some bits louder than others so I also think the film in the way I filmed the footage could definitely be a way to improve and I should really discover how to save my files so that I can feel my have my file as a film. So that's something I hope to learn next year, I also think as another way to improve it kind of bugs me because I didn't think of this also was creating the animation was to put typography in a little bit more as in to say a brand-new series or maybe I could've had a cut bit of a commentator kind of thing.
Almost like you'll find on an advert or in trailers,  you get the voice man who puts on their dramatic voice  the name of the series and a couple words to describe it- to promote and trying to draw you into the movie.

I kind of wish I did that and maybe say here we have a brand-new series blurt something like that and say when it's coming on because all I'm saying is visuals which is great and the sound it's very sing song it's very slapstick kind of sound and very parody and pastiche based, inspired on the fact the artists I've looked at have used parody and facetious dramatic voice saying whatever you saying to promote and trying to draw you into the movie I kind of wish I did that and maybe say here we have a brand-new series Blurt something like that and say when it's coming on because all I'm saying is visuals which is great and the sound it's very sing a song it's very slapstick parrot parody based and inspired on the fact I have looked at other artists who have used parody in their work and that's how I got that idea from. Which to some degree I like but, I do think that this could've had a more informative kind of way of presenting it because it doesn't say what time will be on that and it doesn't say when it is on, is it's just visuals- experimenting with parody and pastiche. You could say it's made as it a bit of a guessing game if you like, because it is almost like you have to watch  an episode and see in future adverts and trailers saying when its coming out etc, sometimes you have idents where it doesn't tell you anything and you know what it is or you have to guess- eg the I'm A celebrity get me out of here adverts: like this one https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NUV3T6CexGQ (Admittedly there is an explanation at the end, but you watch the clip and  you know what it is before the lady says the name of the show.) Although I would say that as an improvement, the idea of my trailer for Blurt,  I wanted to try a show don't tell technique, similar to that clip, in a sense of it being and a fit the pieces together in the jigsaw puzzle. Seeing as the word blurt is very sudden and very out of the box I wanted my animation to be out of the box and very out there to.

I would, 100% do this again,  I would love to make trailers videos animations- therefore I would definitely do that again I've really enjoyed this unit I've enjoyed all the units this year so I think I would definitely like to make new videos and creating visuals and audio to make trailers I would hand on my chest I will definitely do this again. Just anything that's graphic design I will pretty much do it again but in various different ways maybe in the same way, or maybe I could develop this further, as they say, who knows what happens in the future. If I did this project again or create work like this project and done blurt again, I think for this purpose I've picked some good artist and they all have a link they will have something in common that they started off as books and cartoon images they kind of started out with comic cartoon like aesthetic characters and nothing they all have in common is they've all passed away so  there is that side of it in their own ways, as publications, movies or art to make the world say wow. As well which I like the fact that the three artists share purpose and I therefore have good reason for why I picked them.

Although, I would do this again and if I was to do this project again, i'd like to pick different artists so I can learn more about their styles, learn about the history etc- maybe pick some of the artists I didn't pick this time round, you know I would probably look into the different artists I want to learn a bit more about other artists and find other ways I can create imagery and designs. I can learn more about their artistic and design styles and maybe pick some of the artists I didn't pick this time you know I would probably look into the different artists I want to learn a bit more about other artists and find otherwise of inspiration so yeah I mean I could've picked Saul Bass and kind of sad I didn't but there is other times I could features his work in my next project or my work inspired by him, as looking at his work and studying Says Bass has taught me a lot based on the imagery I have recently put together, turning still images to motion graphic imagery. But who knows.

In terms of responding to feedback from my tutor and peer feedback,  I've asked various people, such as- friends family pretty much everyone, I have been driving everyone up the wall, such as my friend and classmate Noah,  and he said he likes how disorientated it is basically, He liked the fact that there was no control in my animation, how I see it is when you Blurt something out aloud, you lose control and no longer have no control, in what you're saying either due to an insult to someone or due to excitement or the element of surprise. As psychologically you're still taking in and reacting to something around you and you find you  have no control because you're trying to say something in the way you don't stop yourself from saying it. So I can't say I can improve on responding to feedback, unless I haven't responded to fellow people's feedback, then I will apologies now!

So, therefore the fact that the animation is disorientating, I wouldn't necessarily say that has to be something to improvement on I this case- but if I was to do another not animation that is supposed to be based on another purpose,  I would possibly say that is another area due for improvement, depending on what I wanted Blurt to be about next time or whatever animation I want it to be about maybe have it slightly more explained if it was a trailer.

We had some commentary as I mentioned before,  and the sound and audio I think I could've worked on much better and the the quality of my footage and sound could've been better I could've edited the better using Adobe Audition more,  I could've, would've, should have done, which may of made it a bit better by doing so in other words, I could have made the sound more fluent so it matches the picture of my visuals but again this is just a learning curve and I can work on that in the future, with future projects. I wouldn't say the sound was bad far or anything but some of it works better than other parts and some of it sounded too quiet over other sounds in that I thought I could've edited that a bit better.
