Speilburg

Stephan Speilburg

For this entry I will be demonstrating research on the film maker and director, Stephan Speilburg and I will be breifly talking about the movies he has created as well as showing my ideas for an animation. Here is a brainstorm below.

Stephan Speilburg Movies Brainstorm

This brain storm is basically addressing all of the movies that Stephan Speilburg made and directed. Mostly I was pinpointing his main and most known movies. he has created the following movies with a brief description:
  • Who Framed Roger Rabbit: This is a Disney movie a mixed live action and cartoon where we find Roger Rabbit being framed and wanted for a crime he did not commit. this film was released on the 2nd of December 1989. I would say in terms of target audio once this movie is aimed towards an older audience, for one seeing the age of the film, basically 30 year olds may reminisce watching this movie seeing as they've grown up with it giving them nostalgia. As well as possibly families because there are cartoon elements in this movie. I would also say the older end of our generation may like this movie if they want something old retro classic to watch of those who are fans of Speilburg's movies.
Who framed Roger Rabbit, 1989
  • Jaws: This movie is about a killer shark, founded in a beach town and is out to kill, but it's down to a sheriff, a marine biologist and a sea to tackle the killer shark. this movie was released on 26th of November 1975. this movie I would say this movie, jaws, isbn't one for the squeamish or for children... I would say the audience for this movie is aimed from ages 20-30 who I think would most likely enjoy Jaws, but I do think considering it came out in 1975, giving the history I would even say this movie again would most defiantly attract the older audience too, for them to enjoy their childhood movie nostalgia who in which may want to watch the a classic Stephan Speilburg movie.

Jaws, 1975
  • The Goonies: this movie is basically about a group of young children, go out on a mission of a measure hunt, by discovering a treasure map and facing all sorts of strange and exotic things along the way. this movie was released on 29th November 1985. I found out this movie is age appropriate for 12 and u, therefore I would say this movie's target audience is basically aimed towards anyone at the age of 12 and up, though having seen this movie myself I can't see why younger children maybe aged 9 and up could watch it too... this movie is also aimed towards those who love action pact adventure films full of wonder and adventure, which is one of the qualities I found when watching this movie myself. I personally liked this film... Anyway I would say people who grew up in the 80's would most defiantly watch this movie, as it is a movie from their childhood and have grown up watching through the decades. yet for me it is still one of the classic movies that I would say is dated or past it's time though some of the younger audience like 12 year olds today may find this movie dated.
The Goonies, 1985
  • The BFG, is based of the Roald Dahl book in 1992, is basically about a giant being hated for its looks and size and a girl, Sophie learns to accept and grow a friendship with the BFG, the big friendly Giant. The movie was released in 2016- which I found an eye opener, it doesn't seem so long ago! The audience for this movie I would say is aimed towards children seeing as the original book written by Rolad Dahl the target audience for that was children.  Not that older audiences cant enjoy it also, but this film I think will attract the eye to children more so. I would also say this movie is aimed for those who like reading, basically those who like Roald Dahl stories.

The BFG 2016

ET- The Extra Terrestrial, was released on 10th December, 1982 family film a child comes across an alien who wants to get home, and finds help and a friend in a child who gets ET back home.  considering the fact ET is a family film I would most defiantly say is aimed for families, children basically anyone and everyone kind if film, but I think children are more likely to enjoy this movie. though so would adults. This movie would also be aimed towards those who in which have grown up watching this movie in their childhood, I think they're also more likely to enjoy it, and when they get families they'd encourage their children to watch the movie, so the legacy is still living. Here is a quote from Speilburg answering a question on an interview on a youtube video in 1992- you'll see the link on the bottom of this page but the quote is an amazing answer, I couldn't't not include it- which is: "Sometimes I think statements like that are pretentious themselves because its sorta says you know, art is serious and art can't be move you- art can't be a bicycle with ET going across the moon , that can't be art, you know because it takes your heart away along with it to the sky and makes you feel like a kind again"- Speilburg I love this quote because I love how he challenges someone saying, look why can't this be art... its creative and moving, it is a type of art, I would back Speilburg up with that quote because I agree, when I watched this movie I felt like a child with a wild imagination, I loved this idea and this quote sums that up perfectly I felt.

ET- The Extra Terrestrial, 1982

  • Jurassic Park & Jurassic World: Jurassic world is a spinoff movie series from the Jurassic Park film, made in 1993 Jurassic world Was released in 2015, is basically where a new theme park is created in the Jurassic Park which is all jungle and dinosaur life, which escapes sanity and goes out to kill.  These movies kind of tells you the target audience, PG and 12 and up, though I think these movies are enjoyable from what I've watched on the original Jurassic world. I think the target audience for the movies is for ages 30 and up as I think they'd enjoy watching a movie they've grown up watching with a modern intake on the movie. I think this movie is suited for a varied audience, but I can't see many of the female population enjoying this movie but you ever know- if they like action pact movies they may enjoy it.

Jurassic Park, 1993 & Jurassic World 2015

Jurassic Movies, 1993-2018

  • Hook, hook is a spinoff of Peter Pan, Pan's Children are kidnaps and the adult Peter Pan has to return to Neverland along with the lost boys and think, to stop the finish Hook. This movie was released on 10th April 1992. I would say this films target audience is I would say is varied to children, to anyone who grew up watching Peter Pan. Anyone who likes Disney really, I would say basically anyone can watch this film, bit I think maybe slightly older children are most likely to enjoy this movie.
Hook,1992

  • Indiana Jones, is basically an action pact movie where a researcher and archeologist... Indiana Jones gets into a mystery of finding out the quest of the crystal skull, this movie was made in 2008 and other sequels were made also. I would say for this film I think guys are more likely to watch this movie than females, not trying to sound sexist, I just think this programme is most likely to appeal to men, but I would say people from about 16-30 are most likely to watch this movie I'd say but that's more an opinionated guess really.
Indiana Jones, 2008

  • The Terminal, a tourist finds himself held hostage JFK airport and has to find a place to temporarily stay. this movie was released on the 3rd September 2004.  I haven't watched this film before so therefore I can't say a specific audience, but I have found out this film is rated for 12 and up so I can guess to assume this movie is aimed for teens and up.
The terminal, 2004

  • Ready player one, is about a virtual reality oasis dies, they find Oasis users to find his Easter egg, this movie is an action pact adventure film, made in 28th of March 2018 and I would have a guesstimate that this movie's audience is aimed towards more men than the female population from what I gather and I would say this movie is aimed towards ages 12-30 year olds who are most likely to watch this movie.

    • Ready Player One, 2018

      • Catch me if you can, is a biography movie which is about a fib agent who on who stops a 19 year old from stealing money and business economics, this movie was released on 31st January 2003, I would say this target audience for this movie, is for the older generation, who like real life dramas, who like films to do with SPYs and crime movies, I think they're the more likely audience to watch this movie.

Catch me if you can, 2003

      • Back to the future, is about a high school student get sent 30 years into his past by his class mates by accident. this movie was released, on the 4th December 1985- this movie I would say is aimed for the older generation, who grew up watching this movie in their childhood, for the nostalgia though having said that if I was to put an age in mind I would say, the age would be for 12-50 year olds I personally think are most likely to watch it.
      • The Gremlin, This movie is about a young boy's dad gets him a pet, demo china, with three instructions which the boy chose to run wild and disobeys the instructions which unleashes a few creatures.  This movie was released, on 7th December 1984, this movie's target audience is aimed towards teens and up I think, I have not seen this movie, but I would like to... I could guess this movie would also be loved by those in the older generation, who have again grew up through their childhood watching this movie.

      The Gremlins, 1984

      • The Poltergeist, is a horror film, a family home is haunted by spirt Ghosts, this movie was released in 16th September in 1982, I have not seen this movie, though despite not seeing thus movie I can defiantly say this movie's target audience is for 15 year olds and up, to which I think the late teenage teenagers are more likely to watch this movie, if they enjoy jump-scare thrillers, and also aimed towards those who grew up watching this movie, when it was released, in the sense to reminisce their past.
      Poltergeist, 1982
      • The Westside Story, is about two teams of rival teens, struggle from taking control on their neighbourhood, and basically start fights as to who has power over each street, this film was released in 27th February, 1962, I haven't seen this movie but I have heard of it and I would say this movie kind of comes across gives me the impression that this movie is a Rom com musical kind of film, therefore I feel the target audience for this movie is aimed towards teens and anyone who grew up watching this movie, in the upper end of our generation, to watch something from their upbringing.

      Ideas Generation

This section here is basically an idea I have come up with for an animation test based on these movies, to see what I can Coe up with. these two images are basically a double page spread but separated so you can see my ideas and processes better.

      Idea, Part 1

This part of my idea, I have found inspiration from the Jurassic World and Jurassic Park and from ET, I came up with the concept of the dinosaur T-rex eating the word Blurt, meaning the dinosaur decides to eat each letter of the word Blurt, starting from the letter T to the letter B. this was more for the ideas concept of experimentation and ideas generation, I wanted to try and incorporate some of Speilburg's most known movies, I also decided on he concept of using the moon in ET as part of where the channel 4 symbol will go displayed on both page spreads with the bike going over the moon, like we find on the iconic movie, but of course adding my own twist by adding the C4 concept also.

      Idea, Part 2

I come up with the idea of Indiana Jone's hat gets eaten by the shark from Jaws, the c4 logo will be hidden in the moon ET's eyes will roll and if I can create it, his eyes will also change colour. Again I have found my inspiration for Speilbrug's more recognised movies.
Though the whole concept for this animation, I wanted to do a bit of a mashup of Speilburg's movies, advertising Blurt, seeing as film makers do come under the design world too and I felt he'd be a good influence and an interesting person to create a test bumper for Blurt. I think the idea is generic, but original, in which it will also contain some pastiche kind of concept because although I intend on recreating the characters and the story and narration for this concept is all thought by me, the characters were created in Speilburg's films so my work would almost be a modernised variation on his work. I hope and intend to be drawing my imagery Via Adobe Illustrator so that the characters can have amore professional and cartoon like look and it is an art style I can create and say is my own as I am recreating the characters based on inspiration on existing characters in my own original way. Hats off to Speilburg and to all of the people who created the story and the characters to each of these movies, it is incredible and hope to try it myself, someday.

"The same feeling I got from going to work every morning is the same feeling as I got going to school everyday" -Speilburg
