Idents Research
Idents
This entry is going to be fairly short, but I am demonstrating and referencing the idents I find inspiring and ones I have found for channel 4 to help me with my ideas generation so I can start creating tests, logos and animations etc.
What are Idents?
Google's definition: "A TV ident is the little bit of video that plays a few seconds before a programme starts, informing the viewer of which channel they're watching. A promotional sequence, it's a critical part of a TV stations brand identity."
Did you know, "Channel 4: Kickabout Filming Location. Channel 4's 'kickabout' advert was filmed in Liverpool's 'Cardigan Street', between Cranborne Road & Cecil Street." (I Found this on my Google search which I thought was an interesting fact.)

I even managed to find a clip on youtube explaining how to make a simple ident, which I have watched and found quite interesting. Here is the link below.

I even wrote some key notes from this video.
This video basically explains to you how to make a simplistic ident, using Photoshop and Final Cut, which I found quite interesting and may give this a go myself.
Keith's Ident
Our very own Keith Sargent has made an Ident for ITV!!! How amazing is this ident! Here is the link, http://3x3x3.tv/itv.html
I think his ident is absolutely amazing and speaking to him in class I recall remember him mentioning he and Sears, have collaborated on this project, where Keith came up with the idea to draw 24 TV's saying ITV on them with imagery of him spinning the TV Cogs, which I find really clever. I really love the abstract pattern graphics in this clip, absolutely brilliant. I like how Keith Features himself in the Ident also, making the TVs spin.
This Ident was published on Youtube on 24th June 2019.
If you ask me, I think his audience aim was for adults seeing as ITV is an adults channel, I think he was trying to attract a variety of different people for creating a face for ITV.
Seeing as our project is on Channel 4, I decided to research some of the idents channel 4 have already exisiting Idents , where I have watched these idents to give me ideas and inspiration for channel 4 idents.
This brain storm are all the Channel 4 idents that I have found and watched on Youtube and on the TV when I was constantly watching TV on Channel 4. At the time I was watching tv all the time, to begin with I found the ads annoying and the ah best walk out the room, adverts do that to you but after doing this course I feel the need to respect the adverts a little bit more and on these channel 4 idents, I have found some interesting and clever ideas for the Channel 4 Idents. Like these idents below.
Before I explain and show you the Idents here is a youtube clip if you want to watch, history of the channel 4 logo which I thought maybe an interest:
Did you know the origin of the Logo design for channel four was by Martin Lambie-Nairn in 1982 and still being used today.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WtRgJVM6lmU I found this quite inspiring to watch and taught me about the origin of the Channel 4 logo.
(Try and spot the Hidden 4's in these idents, I'm telling you now- I find these so clever!- I hate to give you clues or spoilers but I have given you subtle hints on the brain stor

But I like each Ident in their own way.
